TSA - 3 yr old crying

I got a link from someone write after I wrote that TSA - Don't Touch My Junk. http://kstp.com/article/stories/s1847677.shtml

Poor girl. When my eldest was 1 yrs old, they made her a random target of the screening. When they asked me to strip her (even her diaper), I asked for a side room just so no one could see her privates. Good thing I did. She caused a HUGE fit. I can't say that I blame her, she had no idea what was going on.

I think TSA is doing awesome for adults and John Tyner is a spoiled brat. However, the airline rules for children are all fucked up. One state it's only non-filled bottles, another you can have filled bottles. The screening process is bad for little ones, and we need to come up with a better way to do it. It's about time they are looking into it, if at all!

Don't get me wrong, I think children should still be screened.  I've heard of mothers hiding weapons in their kids' diapers.  I mean, really, WHO DOES THAT?!  But, we need to come up with a better way to be screening people, especially children.  I have never been on an airplane where my children AND I were screened (I'm white).  My husband is NEVER screened, just the kids and I.  Must be because he is military.

TSA - Don't Touch My Junk

This is the original story that I read.

"I was approached by a man in slacks and a sport coat. He was accompanied by the officer that had escorted me to the ticketing area and Mr. Silva. He informed me that I could not leave the airport. He said that once I start the screening in the secure area, I could not leave until it was completed. Having left the area, he stated, I would be subject to a civil suit and a $10,000 fine. I asked him if he was also going to fine the 6 TSA agents and the local police officer who escorted me from the secure area. After all, I did exactly what I was told. He said that they didn't know the rules, and that he would deal with them later. They would not be subject to civil penalties. I then pointed to Mr. Silva and asked if he would be subject to any penalties. He is the agents' supervisor, and he directed them to escort me out. The man informed me that Mr. Silva was new and he would not be subject to penalties, either. He again asserted the necessity that I return to the screening area. When I asked why, he explained that I may have an incendiary device and whether or not that was true needed to be determined. I told him that I would submit to a walk through the metal detector, but that was it; I would not be groped. He told me that their procedures are on their website, and therefore, I was fully informed before I entered the airport; I had implicitly agreed to whatever screening they deemed appropriate. I told him that San Diego was not listed on the TSA's website as an airport using Advanced Imaging Technology, and I believed that I would only be subject to the metal detector. He replied that he was not a webmaster, and I asked then why he was referring me to the TSA's website if he didn't know anything about it. I again refused to re-enter the screening area.

The man asked me to stay put while he walked off to confer with the officer and Mr. Silva. They went about 20 feet away and began talking amongst themselves while I waited. I couldn't over hear anything, but I got the impression that the police officer was recounting his version of the events that had transpired in the screening area (my initial refusal to be patted down). After a few minutes, I asked loudly across the distance if I was free to leave. The man dismissively held up a finger and said, "hold on". I waited. After another minute or so, he returned and asked for my name. I asked why he needed it, and reminded him that the female supervisor/agent had already taken a report. He said that he was trying to be friendly and help me out. I asked to what end. He reminded me that I could be sued civilly and face a $10,000 fine and that my cooperation could help mitigate the penalties I was facing. I replied that he already had my information in the report that was taken and I asked if I was free to leave. I reminded him that he was now illegally detaining me and that I would not be subject to screening as a condition of leaving the airport. He told me that he was only trying to help (I should note that his demeanor never suggested that he was trying to help. I was clearly being interrogated.), and that no one was forcing me to stay. I asked if tried to leave if he would have the officer arrest me. He again said that no one was forcing me to stay. I looked him in the eye, and said, "then I'm leaving". He replied, "then we'll bring a civil suit against you", to which I said, "you bring that suit" and walked out of the airport."

Now, okay, my brother works for TSA. He works on computers at SEATAC. I know what he does, and I applaud him for it. It's a job, and there are requirements he needs to clear before he lets someone board a plane - if he were to work in security. Granted, no one wants their "junk" touched, but I've been groped before by places OTHER then the airport. It makes me wonder if this John guy would have such a scene if it happened at a bar. If the bouncer wanted to make sure you weren't carrying a weapon before entering, would you cause such a stink over it?

Anyways...he set off the alarm, and they needed to do a pat down? That's odd, because usually they just wand you and let you go. If you are setting off a metal detector, why do you have such an issue with them making sure you're not going to blow up a plane filled with 250 other people? I wouldn't care at all (do it to my kids, and I'll kill you!) if it was me. Get wanded, get onto the plane. Been wanded before, been patted down, don't care. I set it off because I left loose change in my pocket or was wearing a metal wired bra. My bad.

Point is: If you want to fly, and you set off the metal detectors - be responsible and either get wanded/patted down, or DON'T FUCKING FLY! Hell, I don't even like the hassle of airports with my kids...so I like to drive.

You're fucking 31 yrs old, grow a pair and get it over it! If you set off the alarm, be an adult and handle it accordingly. Don't act like these hard workers are just trying to feel your nuts up! With the way you look, no they don't want to touch you. Hell, you were kicked out of the airport simply because you didn't want to go through security. EVERYONE goes through security. WHY do you think you are better then everyone else?!

For fuck's sake, he called it a sexual assault simply because the government is behind it? WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING? WOULD YOU BE FINE WITH SOMEONE TOUCHING YOUR JUNK IF IT WASN'T THE GOVERNMENT?

Don't get me wrong - I don't like the full body scanner either, but if it eliminates the "touching my junk", I would rather do that. However, these TSA guys don't want to touch his junk anymore then we want it to be touched. I think he was being paranoid. The TSA agents were really calm throughout the entire thing, and it seems like Tyner has some issues with the government and security protocol in general. What is this guy's problem? This isn't fucking illegal. We have been doing this for DECADES, and now YOU have a problem with it just because it's YOU? Come on now. Get real.

He also made comments about how he is white and 6'1, blah blah blah. He totally turned this into a race issue. Hello!!! NOT ALL TERRORISTS LOOK THE SAME! We have HOME GROWN terrorists in this country and they could look just like you buddy. Hell, I'm white and a chick, I get the "random screening" EVERY time I fly. Do I care or cause a stink and act like a child? No the fuck. It's their job, and if I want to fly - I'll do it.

If you didn't want 15 minutes of fame, then why did you turn on your cellphone BEFORE you even got searched? Before you were called out of line? If this was truly a random search, then why put up such a fuss? It's random! Good call TSA!

Seems to me that if this guy was TRULY standing up for his "rights", he wouldn't turned on his cellphone before there was even a problem. If he doesn't like going through security (which is required to fly), then do NOT fly. Simple. He KNEW he would have to go through security, but instead decided to show up and caused a stink anyways.

The REAL question shuoldn't be about whether or not he's standing up for his rights...but WHY HE seems to think he is above the law? Everyone else needs to go through security as well. So, WHY, does this punk think he suddenly shouldn't have to? I find that absurd and laughable.

This isn't about "rights" like he is suddenly claiming. It's because HE didn't want to have to go through ANY security (which has been around forever). That's pathetic.

For that matter, would you be standing up for him if he looked muslim? What would you have said if he really DID have a bomb on him? What if he got through security after his little snit fit? 10$ you wouldda blamed TSA for their lack of attention to that one guy, even though they were just trying to do their job.

Hey, let's just let every single person who declines to get checked through security on planes, b/c Toroga is scared that the roads will be shut down next.

Forget that. Let EVERYONE through who complains about living in a facist or communist country. Including the drug dealer who wants to sit next to YOU on the plane. All because you THINK something will happen, or suddenly BELIEVE the government has gone too far (forget that there are OPTIONS when going through security). Just let EVERYONE through that complains. It's all good. We don't need security anyways. All because someone whined about being some special snowflake.

Skyline - Epic Movie (???)

I don't exactly like going out to the movies, because of all the people. They usually kick my seat, talk loudly, and are generally obnoxious. However, when it is date night (no kids!!!), we attempt to see a good movie. So we did this past weekend after the Army Ball. We picked Skyline because Hungover (?) was sold out. My husband said it was the movie after Independence Day, and he knew I liked ID so why not go see this one - it'd be pretty much the same, except better. Supposedly.

We have our own ranking system in this house. It goes like this: Theater watchable (should go see it in the theater cause it's fucking awesome!!), Rentable (iffy movie, renting would be okay), and WTFland (don't even fucking watch it!!!). This movie was in WTFland.

Not even close. It wasn't even a "download for free" movie. Not worth paying to see it, not worth paying to rent it. Common sense was lacking throughout the entire movie. The screenplay was horrible. The acting was terrible. Some of the things in the movie itself, made you sit there and just laugh at how STUPID the directors were.

We live in LDS-land. The scene where they were looking through the telescope at the guy getting a blow job, made the entire audience behind us go "omg...". I thought it was funny as shit. Hysterical. But, obviously, these people here are fucking retarded and can't take a joke worth shit.

Not one of the characters was even likeable. I hated them all. From the cheating husband, to his whore, to his wife who is a fucking drunken bitch, to the main characters...who looked like a couple of drug addicts. I didn't like them all throughout the entire movie, and when they did the "15 hrs earlier", I was like...why do I NEED to see this?!

The monsters were amazing in detail, and pretty cool. They were the only thing interesting about this whole movie. However, when you get into a car and it's stomped into the ground by a huge ass monster - you don't pull out an itty bitty gun to shoot at it and not run. What a fucking joke!

Hell, even at the end, when she was like "I'm staying with you". I'm sitting there like, well...what a fucking retard. My husband and I have discussed this. If we ever have a zombie invasion or anything else, I'm taking the kids and leaving. If he gets stuck somewhere, he knows I will try to help IF I can. However, I will not stay to die with him for no reason. That was just retarded, and lacked complete common sense.

Overall, the movie was more of a joke then it was "action" or "scary" or "romantic". They didn't even make it out of the hotel. This was a complete waste of my time, and anyone else who PAID to see it.

Biggest Loser - Week 7

My husband is active duty Army, and has been for over 10 years. He has done 3 tours in Iraq. I have asked him about the food in the mess hall before (when we first got married), it has NOT changed much in the last 10 yrs.

Yes, the mess hall food is set-up as a buffet style. There are some kitchen-assigned workers that put food on your plate. It is a: grab it if YOU want it, type of eating assembly. As per the TYPES of food there, it is normal food from eggs and bacon to FRUIT and cereal. YOU have the choice to eat what YOU want, when YOU want.

It is NOT just all fatty foods that you can just stuff your face with. You CAN eat healthily if you want (my husband prefers muffins in the morning, and fruit salad for lunch). How many fat military folk do you see walking around? Almost none. How many do you see walking around in public? A lot.

This isn't about the type of food or the environment (we clearly saw one of the boys say he was purposely going to eat unhealthily - and then later try to blame the mess hall), it is about that SPECIFIC person's choice of food for the day. They obviously made the entirely wrong decisions when faced with real food (btw most of it tastes really bad still).

As per stress adding onto their weight gain, or lack of loss, I doubt that. As a military spouse, I deal with the stress of my entire household, my husband's job, and many more stress-inducing factors. Yet, neither my husband NOR I are overweight or even close to obesity. Also, pretty much being a single parent, I work on 3 hours of sleep.

In short: I'm tired of seeing people blame everything but themselves for their own actions. We saw what they were eating, and we watched them make excuses. I am disgusted with the fact that hardly anyone else gets that on this thread. The military is a great environment and the food may taste like junk - but I don't see an obese guy holding a gun at the range every other week, do I?

Blame yourselves. Not other people. Thousands of other people do what these people did every single day (btw we wake up at 4am for PT here), and yet, we don't look like buses. Amazing.

I also think Elizabeth shouldda gone home, I'm tired of the pretty princess act every episode. Forget that. I think nothing is actually WRONG with her. I think she is doing it for a pity party and the attention. Even Jillian has called her out on it before. If they were actually training with Jillian (no offense to my military guys), she wouldn't have let that fly. However, since the marines didn't know Elizabeth's MO, they let it slide and felt bad for her.

I think Elizabeth has gotten way too many free passes. I believe (if I remember correctly), Elizabeth gained a lb while Anna lost 2? Anna is loses, and Elizabeth can't even do 1 lb. That's pathetic.

As per needing an inhaler - I used to be asmatic (when I was younger), and carried that dang thing with me always. I still keep it on me always just in case. She is NOT asmatic. She is a drama queen. She is a hypocondriac.

WAHHH! Not a hill! WAHHH I had to walk (while not even carrying ANY weight)! WAHH I have to be CARRIED!

I was sitting next to my hubby and all we kept saying was: Yell at them more! Don't baby them!

They did some weak PT sessions, a crummy obstacle course (not near as bad as the real thing), and that was it. I was highly disappointed in this week's episode. Blame the food/mess hall all you want, these people had it easy. Heck, half of them were crying just because they had to walk up the hill to the barracks!

Ghetto Babysitting

So, I posted an add on our local Craig's list offering our services as a babysitter. This chick called back, she wanted to hire us for 30 hours a week, at a rate of $2400 a month - which is $10.00 per child per hour. Not a bad price, especially at this time in the market and she was on government paid babysitting assistance. Never heard of it before now.

We did the interview, and I brought a list of questions that I wanted answered. Here's the list and the responses.

1 - Do you want us to brush their teeth after every meal, like we do with our children?
Doesn't care

2 - How many hours per day and will we need to provide transportation?
30 hours per day, starting immediately. Yes, you would need to pick them up everyday (complete other side of town, she doesn't have a car) - unpaid for gas.

3 - What sort of punishments would you like? Time-outs? Hitting?
No hitting (yet her ex-babysitter slammed her kid against the wall?), time-outs are fine.

4 - Would you prefer that I updated my CPR certification?
Yes, I had a child die already to SIDS. (which she blamed on her cigarette smoking)

5 - Do we need to supply diapers and food for both children?
Yes, but no food for the youngest (9months old) because she is still on formula.

6 - Are they on a special diet? What are their favorite foods? Can they have candy as part of the reward system? Are they both still eating mushies?
Lactose Intolerant. Spaghetti. Yes. No, the eldest is not on mushies (I believe that he is, since he was eating at the time and was making the biggest mess known to man because it was solid food. Nothing was even getting into his mouth. Not trained in using forks/spoons)

7 - Are you on a current routine for bedtime, storytime, learning, naptime?
No, I pretty much put them down whenever. I also prefer that you sing to my daughter (the youngest).

8 - Are they potty trained and would you be expecting us to teach them?
No for both, and yes. My son is uncircumsized.

9 - Special Educational Needs?
None

10 - Do you have outside or inside rules of the house while they are in your care?
No. We have no rules here.

11 - Are they allowed on the playset and in the pool during the summer? If so, do you have bathing suits for them and floaties?
You would need to provide bathing suits and floaties. My youngest cannot go in/on either, my eldest needs to be watched on both.

12 - Favorite toys? What toys are not okay? Guns?
No favorite toys, and all toys are okay (though personally, I would never give a toy gun to any kid)

13 - Are the parks and the zoo okay to go for and if we go to the a paid event, would you be paying or us?
You would need to pay, and it would be okay with us.

14 - Do they both sleep in cribs still or toddler beds?
Both are crib sleepers, and we would like you to work on our eldest sleeping in a real bed.

15 - Would you need me to take them to the dentist and doctor for you, as well?
Yes, unpaid.

16 - Do you have insurance for both kids? Eyes, dental, doctor?
None. You would need to pay the copay.

17 - How much TV is okay per day? What channels?
As much TV as you want, any channel is acceptable. My son (the eldest) watches family guy. (okay...then....)

18 - Medical Conditions?
My son has had a recurring problem with urinary tract infections. (ew)

That was pretty much it, besides the general observations. She didn't have heat in her place (was using an open oven to heat her place and my kid almost burned her hand), and the place was messier then ours. Which is almost impossible. I understand having kids means no real time for cleaning, but this bitch didn't even clean up the feces on the floor.

They are also not trained in sippy cups (still both on bottles and the eldest has bottle rot), not potty trained...and basically run wild.

Turns out we didn't get the job. She went back to a previous babysitter whom she claims threw her kid against a wall. I doubted that and asked why she didn't call the cops - she claims she didn't want the drama. WTF. Then she got a text from said babysitter DURING our interview, and decided to call her back right in front of my face. If she was so willing to trash the previous sitter, then imagine what she would have said about us.

I was overall not impressed with her parenting style, nor the amount of responsibility that WE would be shouldering. We are not there to raise her kids FOR her, and she pretty much hasn't raised them at all before now. Also, the SIDS and urinary tract infections irked me. Also, she smelled like pot.

We were not hired, and honestly, I'm pretty happy about that. I'm considering calling CPS.
