Movie Review: Follow The Prophet Part 2

I'm now going to go into detail about the actual movie, please ignore all typos I had to keep alt tabbing so my kid didn't see it. I am 10minutes in and am already seeing, yet again, another scene that makes absolutely no sense. The FLDS members that this movie was created about, live in religious sects. Home schooled, in a 5 mile-ish wide area. They all live together in an occult "compound". Their houses do NOT look like normal houses. The movie shows the two girls (Valerie and her sister) living in a modern day home, when a car drives up. Most FLDS members do NOT drive, and that is reserved ONLY for trips into town for special occasions (restocking etc). For the most part, FLDS members stay to themselves - secluded. I should also mention that stricter sections of this religion are very intolerant of modern day appliances (it is part of their belief system). So there wouldn't be a phone, video camera, cars, microwaves, fridges. This is obviously not portrayed correctly and one of the main reasons why occult members have such a major issue getting OUT of the occult.

Side note: I've heard various stories about lamps. I'm not sure if they use them or not, or if only sparingly. It's currently up for debate.

I would also like to note that I don't believe in men only having the Melchizedeke Priesthood. I believe that (/gasp) even women can be prophets. Call it a pro-women theory of mine.

I am not sure why the FLDS member went to the "almost" appointed new prophet for fraud help (Who the fuck gets a $6million loan??? No way in hell!). Even if the judge was an FLDS member, that would definitely be a conflict of interest if they were the same religion (same exact sect), or at the least illegal. However, as this is supposed about the pedophile FLDS, I am almost 100% positive the judge was NOT FLDS - and MIGHT be LDS. Completely different. As well, the church wouldn't look bad because one person broke the law. That is a problem with the individual, not their religion, and we've seen how many murderers "find faith in God". It is just contradictory. Tithing is also NOT mandatory, but more of a personal choice. I do NOT pay tithing because my husband gets paid WAY too little, and we live paycheck to paycheck. The way the scene seemed though, the "soon to be" prophet was almost demanding a tithe for his "help". This would also never happen. 10% on every dollar is normal tithe, NOT 60%, and a church leader would NOT take more then 25%. Nor would they blackmail for their help with it. That isn't true at all. I've never been forced or looked down on because I don't pay tithing. Most help our church offers is free, and usually done by the Boy Scouts (Eagle Project/Merit Badges) or the missionaries for free food/glimpse at a tv.

The kissing on the lips is creepy and so is how all of the women seem to "serve" their husband. I mean all of the wives helping him take off his jacket is just...wtf... I wouldn't do that! But, I guess that is considered normal for the FLDS. But, there seems to be a LOT of affection between the daughter and father. My hubby loves his girls, but he doesn't kiss them on their necks and shit all the time. "I saved the best present of all for last." What the fuck, that is the words of a comfortable pedophile! He was probably preparing her for that her entire life! Ewww. I'm not even going to bother asking the usual questions of: "how does a FATHER get attracted like that for their daughter?!", because (as we all know) they'd be pointless. God also NEVER commanded Joseph to fuck his daughter. I'm sorry, I think that is a fucked up version of the bible that I never read. Pro move with the lamp, I laughed. This was probably the only "real" part of the movie to me.

The mother covered her head during it made me say bullshit. Sure the director will just say that the mom is conditioned to accept it as normal, since it most likely happened to her - let alone screaming like that. But I can't even handle it when my kids get a fucking paper cut and the family was overly loving until that moment. Especially if I knew EXACTLY what the cause was. That's how NORMAL mothers react, not this wimpy pathetic version that the director came up with.

After the initial attempted rape scene, none of the rest really seemed believable. I mean, everyone seems to think so highly of this guy that served in Iraq/Afghanistan (yet his own ex-wife and daughter pretty much know nothing about him or hated him), so much so that the cops just let him do whatever he wants. I was floored. Either it was a small town, or it was all for the movie. Also, what are the chances that she randomly picks HIS vehicle. The ONLY truck that won't get searched, stopped, or impounded (even though he drives multiple times drunk). Too much coincidences, and really hard to believe.

I am finding it hard to believe that the main actress in this movie is really 26 years old (at the time of the movie). Annie Burgstede has the body of a 14 yr old girl. She looks rather anorexic and really sickly. I'm not sure if that's her normal body-type, but damn she looks rough. Plus I never have ANY respect for ANY actress that bares all for any type of film. I didn't like it when Ashley Judd did it in The Affair, and I really don't like it when a brand-new actress does it on her first film. It's a sign of things to come. What will she do next?? Oh that's right, she pretty much did it all in this film (regardless of her moral reasons for wanting to star in such a hate-filmed movie). Really not a fan of the naked, walking around supposedly drunk. What person does that when left alone, and a complete stranger could come back? I wouldn't trust that stranger for a minute, especially after what had just happened to me. And right in front of the sheer curtains, no less. What the fuck was this producer thinking? Oh that's right, sex sells. Newsflash: We didn't need nor want this part of the movie. Tacky.

Her obsession with that camera is pretty fucked up too. What's the point in having the hand-held camera shots all the fucking time? She's not doing a video log, she's just fucking around with it all day. So far that is a good 30minutes of my life wasted while she just toys with the shit. Pointless part of the movie, again. The drunk, "I'm making a movie" didn't even validate it for me either. Just made me even more irritated that the director KEPT that shit in there and expected me to watch it. That was also the lamest fucking excuse for making me watch it. It has/had nothing to do with the storyline until this point, and so far has been wasting my fucking time. How the fuck is she even charging that shit in the car and at the camp? This is fucking stupid! I highly doubt she has a portable charger, especially if she is acting like it's a brand new "toy" (and from such a strict FLDS sect).

Plus, why does no one else think it's odd that she suddenly decided to drop ALL aspects of her previous life in less then 24 hrs? She's been gone maybe 8 hrs, and she's already walking around naked, burning her old clothes, drinking her ass off, and smoking her ass off (yet 2 days before she was still choking on the smoke, takes a LOT longer then that to get used to cigarette smoke). What the fuck, this doesn't even make sense. Sure, I can see it happening gradually OVER TIME. But not THAT quickly, regardless of attempted rape.

I've seen and met rape victims, it takes YEARS to even come somewhat close to removing certain aspects of your life. This is NOT the "normal" behavior of a rape victim. Btw, she doesn't look "terrified" like the guy said. She looks like she's just hiding, but that's fucking it. She has a massive attitude problem for this guy just saving her ass royally. That shit is NOT normal for a rape victim. MAJORITY of rape victims are abso-fucking-lutely TERRIFIED of ANY human contact. They cry, get angry, but never are really disrespectful. Shit, I believe one to be SHY towards a stranger more then I'd believe her shitty attitude.

What is this suddenly new plotline where her father supposedly raped her so many times that she was "almost convinced" it never happened, yet suddenly remembers it once she's away from him and is more then willing to talk about it. I call bullshit, most rape victims do NOT want to discuss it or even remember it. If he really did rape her that many times (she's obviously a runner), she would have left the FIRST time. Not that one night. If you are in a situation like that (father raping daughter for years/months/weeks), you either get accustomed to it or you get out much fucking sooner - and we saw she had PLENTY of time to get out in the beginning. You don't even act so fucking surprised like she did at the beginning of the movie, when he was suppoedly raping her for the first time. They acted like that was the only fucking time, and I guess I wouldda believed it. Now with this whole shit, I can't buy any of that crap. Just doesn't make fucking sense. The storyline and thought process behind it makes me think this entire movie production didn't look one fucking thing up at all.

Sadly enough neither the teenage actress nor the actor playing Marx (such a common name btw) are really good at ACTING. He's stoic a lot of the time, and she's usually using that same bland face for EVERYTHING. Honestly, Red (the park ranger of the run away camp) was the MOST believable. She had some real fucking emotion when she first ran into them.

However, ever the naysayer, I am calling bullshit on the "runaway camp". Majority of people that leave the FLDS live in shit apartments with distant relatives or with others who had gotten out before them. Somehow they always manage to contact them before they get out and then head out to meet them one day. This isn't the normal circumstance for the escapees. Once out of the FLDS sect, it is really EASY to hide in normal society less then 5minutes away. I call bullshit on this too, and feel this was only used as another drama-inducing shock factor.

I'm not sure if the director was purposely trying to think that he was sexist, but that was the feeling I got when the director purposely made the cop look like an idiot with the kidnapping comment. Was that degrading shit really necessary? No, and honestly, it did nothing for the storyline (or my attention span).

So when they are documenting the "life stories" at the camp, the reasons for not telling anyone they were being molested/raped ranged from "They said I would burn like toast" (how does that even make fucking sense??), "I wanted to be a Goddess in the spirit world" (Even as LDS, I have no IDEA where this was derrived from...I've never heard of becoming goddess in the after life in any form of the LDS religion), to "You're lucky, you don't need to clutter your day with anything but follow the prophet" (even from an FLDS perspective, that's REALLY fucking far out there - that is not the REASON they follow their prophet, and I don't buy it for this). And once again, none of them really show any key indicators of being rape victims at all.

I've also NEVER, ABSOLUTELY NEVER, heard nor seen ANY scriptures that absolutely state 100% you need 3 wives in order to become a God. First of all, LDS is one of those religions that does NOT hold ANY idols before their god and does NOT believe in false gods. It's a core function of our religion. For that matter, why so specific and where the fuck are these supposed scriptures? I've read the Bible, N Testament, O Testament, Pearl o Great Price, Book of Mormon, etc and no where has it EVER said that. The ONLY thing that come close to that is the FLDS scripture (they actually have their own set that I've never read) that states you get eternal paradise IF you have 3 wives. Kind of like the 40 virgins in heaven, but NOT become a god. It's considered to give you highest form of salvation, and 3 is the minimum requirement.

The mystery behind the "saw my little brother screaming" is also pretty worthless. They delved so much into what happened to the girls, that they didn't even really broach what happened to the boys. All they did was add onto the "occult" ideals by bringing it up briefly and not even in detail. It didn't explain anything, nor was it even a part of the storyline.

In the movie he goes to a military base named Fort Murray in Utah. There is no Fort Murray in Utah. There is Hill Air Force Base (near Ogden), Dugway Proving Ground (Dugway), and Tooele Army Depot. No Fort Murray. There is also no TOWN named Fort Murray in Utah, at all. This place doesn't exist. By the looks of it, it REALLY looks like Hill Air Force Base. Previously, they said that he was prior Delta Force (Army Branch). Dugway and Tooele are both Army posts, however almost no one gets stationed there unless they are considered recruiters (we're stationed near Hill Air Force Base, and we're active duty military, but only under mitigated circumstances). I am once again, calling bullshit and my bullshit detector is going up in flames.

I would also like to add that when the Army guy was saying it was a local matter, he was mainly doing it to keep the peace. That is what they attempt to do, at all costs, otherwise the locals get up in arms about how we live in a militarized state. However, there HAVE been circumstances (like this) where they HAVE contacted the authorities of the area and assisted in the investigation. I also, honestly have to say that there has NEVER been a military cover-up on something like this just because so-and-so was born there and prejudiced. I'm sorry, but no. My husband is an officer and had a shit fit when he heard the movie say that. This is just another HATEFUL/BIGOT segment.

This entire movie so far has just been one lie after another. Sure, some of this shit really DOES happen but NOT to this extreme. The world isn't full of ONE BIG COVERUP! Bullshit! No. An entire STATE (local, federal, state, military etc) do NOT work that closely together and I have NEVER heard of an FLDS sect covering that wide of a range - let alone INFLUENCE it. Usually they are shunned first, not liked. Most of the FLDS nutcakes live off the grid and have absolutely no jobs (if they do, it's a small job) that won't have this range of effect. They just simply don't have the members, and honestly have a screwed up religion (I'm surprised they get ANY members at all). It may SEEM like it, but once you get out of that initial sect - you're golden.

As per his famous line: "Church first before God, Country, Brother". I call bullshit on that. My husband is a military man and put the military before church, and god before them both. Family comes first always. Who the fuck even wrote this trash? When he's not trashing the FLDS/LDS religion (he considers them the same religion, remember?), he's trashing the military. Yes, I did hear the "blip" about fundamentalists breaking off from the church. That was one line, in the middle of the movie (over an hour and 15minutes into it) and the director didn't think it was prudent to delve into it anymore. Assholes.

The equipment that Marx uses for surveillance is actually considered high tech gear. It costs too much to buy on even a Delta's paycheck and no way would he get permission from somebody to borrow it from base. He actually wouldn't be able to leave base with any of it. They make sure nothing leaves the storage rooms.

As per making millions a year, that is from OUR tithes and our PRIVATELY owned businesses. The church does NOT own our jobs, we do. Also, the FLDS does NOT make millions a year - only the LDS. The FLDS is such a smaller sect that it's almost non-existant, and to group our tithes in with them is fucking stupid. As per all unwed mothers collecting welfare, I call BS on that generalization too. There are niggers out there popping out kids JUST to collect WIC and those food stamps. What the fuck. For that matter, majority of LDS members do NOT take advantage of government programs like that (most of us are comfortable in our own upkeep without having to take out handouts). So, the entire time they are talking about the money - it is REALLY about the LDS church. There is also a population of 3million people in the state of Utah (2010 census) and only 12% of our actual total members in the world live in Utah. So, no, this isn't a state of "fraud". Also, they acted like tithes are done "per day". They are only done once a month, sometimes even more infrequently as 6 months to a year. Even then, it is completely up to the INDIVIDUAL how much they DONATE to the church. Businesses do NOT donate to the church, at least not monetary. Usually they donate services or food for homeless shelters (which we are #1 in giving back to communities).

We believe (like almost all other religions have iconic figureheads) that our prophet DOES speak with God ocassionally. However, just because the prophet tells me to jump off a bridge, doesn't mean that I don't have the free will to ignore that "command". The prophet NEVER COMMANDS us to do anything. He mainly offers support and guidance. Not direct orders or commands though (unless it's thou shalt not kill your annoying neighbor).

I have also never seen a missionary holding a sniper rifle. They don't carry sniper rifles on them. LOL As a missionary, you are definatily not supposed to kill anyone. Hunting is okay for normal civilians and being the military is okay too, but we don't go hunting PEOPLE. LOL I'm not even sure what this discple of hell bullshit the father was spewing on about. LOL I still have yet to find any proof that the prophet is God of this earth etc. No such thing at all. It is asinine to assume so, when our religion is SO clear on it.

It's also not that simple to pull out a bullet, Delta training or not. In fact, a lot of people die each year because they saw it done on TV and attempt to do an extraction themself. I really doubt the validity behind this entire scene.

Also for the record, our prophets only have ONE wife and usually are well past the age of 60 after getting elected into office (by the church board)...and well married for over 30 years. Nor does he have an armed guard like the Pope or the President. LOL He walks around like an everyday person, and I'm sure no one even knows who he is or what his name is.

Final comment: That is not what our garments look like at all. There are multiples, including thongs! /gasp I do not, however wear them, because I get itchy with certain fabrics. However, they do have silk garments - but I just don't see the need to spend that much money on underwear when I can just wear a thong or go commando!

I am disgusted, once again, with the fact that they are lumping together the FLDS and LDS church together. They seem to blur the lines when it comes down to making an interesting movie. As shown by all of my complaints, and corrections, they have missed the factual mark by far. This was purely to create more bigots and hatred towards the government (all types) and the LDS.

The worst part about this was that people took this movie as FACTUAL, about our REAL church and REAL events that transpired. This did NOT happen to the LDS church. It has resemblances to the FLDS church, but NOT OURS. There is also maybe 5 LDS members in any sort of public office, so this widespread pandemic of us taking over the world is insane.

This movie was NOT REAL! PLEASE REALIZE THIS AND LOOK INTO THE FACTS YOURSELF! This man does NOT deserve any awards or rewards for his blatant biogtry and hate-filled movie.
